Gerard Allen

Gerard is a Senior Captain for the Staples Wrestling team for the 2020-21 season. Gerard began wrestling in 6th grade and has received a varsity letter for each year of his high school wrestling career. Gerard is also an Assistant Coach for the Westport Youth Wrestling team and enjoys helping others along with their journey in wrestling. This season he is looking forward to his last year of high school wrestling and being given the opportunity to lead such a promising team.

Alex Kappel

Jonathan Law High School wrestler @ 171 & 189 Lbs Won over 100 matches Placed top-3 SCC’s Placed top-5 at Class M’s Finished top-8 at Open’s. Started on the Cadet Freestyle National Team for Connecticut. Attended college at Western Connecticut State University - played competitive club rugby for 4 years and was captain for 3 years. Nick Augeri

Nick, a Junior Captain for the 2020-21 wrestling season, is a three-year Varsity wrestler who placed first at the FCIAC and LL State Championships as a Sophomore at 195lbs. Nick began wrestling in 2013 with Mad Bulls Youth Wrestling. Nick is also a Staples Varsity lacrosse player and loves coaching and mentoring younger athletes through youth wrestling, lacrosse and football. He is an enthusiastic leader who looks forward to working hard alongside his teammates to continue the upward trend of Staples High School wrestling.

Connor Blum

Connor is a Senior Captain for the 2020-2021 wrestling season and a 4-year varsity wrestler. Connor played PAL Football for six years and was a member of the Staples Football team his Freshman year before transitioning his primary focus to wrestling. In the off-season, Connor stays in fighting shape as a member of the Staples Track teams. He will also complete his 7-year journey to Eagle Scout in the Spring of 2021. Connor is proud to serve as a Senior Captain and honored by the opportunity to help lead his teammates to victory during his final year at Staples.

Chris Cornell

Chris was a four-year Division 1 wrestler and a two-year starter at Sacred Heart University, and remains an active Alum within several of its programs. He wrestled Varsity at Mahopac High School, named 3 time All-County and to All-Section, while compiling a record of 91-29. Chris has extensive coaching experience with the West Point Wrestling Camp and the Mahopac Youth Wrestling Association

Gaetana Deiso

“G” is certified with the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and is licensed through the state of Connecticut. She graduated from Springfield College in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a minor in Nutrition. She begins her 13th year as Head Athletic Trainer at Staples. Prior to Staples, she worked 5 years as Head Athletic Trainer at Greens Farms Academy and at Moore Center for Rehabilitation. She also worked with Fairfield University’s football and rugby teams from 1999 to 2002. In the summer of 2002, she worked at Boyle’s Strength and Conditioning in Boston, where she trained many professional athletes and Olympic athletes. She was also on the CATA Secondary School Committee from 2007-2012. "G" is a Certified Functional Strength Coach and a TFW (Training For Warriors) Certified Coach. She is the owner of Body Blast Sports Performance. She lives in Trumbull with her husband, Doug, and daughters, Michaela and Gabriella.

Owen Clarke

Owen, a member of the Class of 2021 and a Captain for the 2020-21 wrestling season has been an integral part of the Staples Wrestling Team since his arrival. Owen began wrestling in 7th grade, wrestled Varsity as a Freshman and has since been a regular in the Staples High School lineup. An accomplished student athlete, Owen is on track to earn a total of 10 Varsity letters across three sports during his time at Staples High School. A Captain of the 2020 football team, Owen is two year returning starter playing both offense and defense. Owen is also three-year starter for the Staples Rugby Team and was selected for the Connecticut Select Team in 2019 as a Sophomore.
